Mass Effect

PC highlights at the VGA 2010 Awards

PC games held a great showing at the Spike VGA 2010 show this year. Lots of new World Premieres. Mass Effect 3, Elder Scrolls V, Portal 2, Prototype 2, Batman Arkham City and Thor. I was a little surprised to see Elder Scrolls V, and Portal 2. I am glad to see them show up. A slight tease though as not much is really presented from those two. Alot of these games are coming in 2011.

Who won? Well lets see. PC games. Multiplatform or not PC seems to win alot at the VGA 2010 show.
Studio of the Year – Bioware
Best PC game – Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty
Best Shooter – Call of Duty: Black Ops
Best Action/Adventure – Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
Best RPG – Mass Effect 2
Best Driving Game – Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Most Anticipated Game – Portal 2

Lets start with Mass Effect 3. Bioware decided to release a couple of screens before VGAs and to try and fool people to think their next game had nothing to do with Mass Effect. Now the Reapers are attacking Earth. London, and several other cities around the world are in trouble and Shepard must come to save Earth from ultimate destruction! Coming Fall 2011 to PC, PS3, X360. Maybe Mac will get a release this time. Since PS3 got one last time.

How about Thor? Well Its an okay looking game. I tend to stay away from most Comic adventure games. Some tend to lack in quality, but in past couple of years things have improved and this might be a first big Marvel title to break the trend of the past. Coming in May 2011 for PC, PS3, X360.
Thor Trailer from VGAs

Batman: Arkham City showed a great trailer. Hugo Strange is in town and wants to play a game with Batman. Arkham City also will feature, The Joker, Two Face, Harley Quinn and a number of other villains. Rockstedy by far is one of the best movie to game tie in game developers out there right now. Coming in 2011 for PC, PS3, X360

Prototype 2 I don’t know much about the series honestly. It looks like in the 2nd game Lt. James Helen wishes to take out Alex Mercer. I am not certain if this game follows Alex or James. It looks to me like James wants to become like Alex to be able to destroy him. Game is due out in 2012 for PC, PS3, X360.

Prototype 2 VGA clip

Portal 2 had an interesting short trailer with the two robots being assembled and having a little personality to them. Not much else. I was a little disappointed not much else was shown, but Co-Op play is going to be awesome in Portal 2. Coming February 2011 to PC, Mac, PS3, X360.

Portal 2 VGA clip Not the best clip. I personally prefer the last one. It would have been a better presentation. Take a look. Portal 2 awesome Co-Op trailer

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Well After Oblivion we have Skyrim. Sons of Skyrim descending. Another epic story from Bethesda. Coming November 2011 to PC, PS3, and X360.

I personally can’t wait for 2011. So many great games coming. I was surprised a few of my favorite games didn’t show up at VGA 2010, but I know they are still coming in 2011. I hope yall enjoy.

Review: Mass Effect 2

This will be my first entry here in a long series of mostly RPG-related articles. I was planning to open up with a review of the RPG genre as a whole and how to define it, but that is taking so long that I’ll have to put it on haitus. A Mass Effect 2 review is already late enough as it is. So here we go…

Get ready for a long review.

WHY TO GET IT ON PC

Mass Effect 2 is available on Xbox 360 and PC. If you played the original Mass Effect on the 360, you probably know that the inventory management was head-bashingly annoying. You had to hold down that little mushroom stick for all its worth to scroll to the bottom of your list of weapons just so you could sell the one on the bottom, then it would jump to the top and you’d have to do it all over again to sell the next one. The PC rectified this somewhat thanks to little tricks like a scrollbar and the mouse. Those problems are gone on both platforms in ME2, and I don’t know of any specific examples in this game since I don’t have the 360 version this time, but if nothing else there’s mouse aiming. Since ME2 now lets you aim for different body parts (headshots, blowing arms off robots, etc.), being able to aim well is important. Finally, one really neat feature on the PC is the fact that it gives you a “code” for each unique Shepard face you generate, which you can save or share with others, in order to recreate that exact face. › Continue reading
